Do you ever get up early just to take photos of a sunrise?
I didn’t use to but I do now. It might have something to do with getting old. You know how old people get up super early…
That’s kind of a thing right?
In my real life, I’m a contractor. I work on houses and such, been doing it my entire adult life.
I turn clients Pinterest dreams into realities.
I do “this” for FREE!
With the hope that one day I can get this whole photography/writing shabang figured out. For now, I’m just gonna keep grinding.
Anyways….back to old people.
I can’t tell you how many times I would ask an “older” client… “what time would be good for me to show up?”
Answer….Well, I’ll be up at 5:00 am waiting on you.
Me…Ok, cool. I’ll be there around 9:00.
I’m actually turning into that old guy. I do things a lot different than I use to… like, get up early.
Especially for sunrise Bangers like the shot above.
The fog was blanketing the River Valley over Russellville, Arkansas that morning. I had a small break in the clouds and for a second, I didn't think the sun was going to pop out and I started to get grumpy about wasted my time getting up early.
Then it happened, the sun peaked out and we had one of the sweetest sunrises I’ve seen in a long time. It was like all the pink from the sun was reflecting off the top of the fog making for an unbelievable shot.
After I took a few (hundred) shots, you know I had to get one of Kristal with her signature peace sign. I mean, it was pretty peaceful!
And who doesn’t love a little peace, especially while watching a sunrise on the edge of a mountain.
One thing I’ve noticed about sunrises versus sunsets…..
Usually, we’re all alone during a sunrise shoot and not so much during sunset.
I kind of like it that way.
Things To Do At Mount Nebo
If you came here to learn about things to do at Mount Nebo State Park of Arkansas, I’m about to break it down for you.
Then, you have the cabins for rent. That’s where we stayed. Cabin 69 to be exact. It faces west and gives you an awesome view of the sunset!
Next you have over 3,000 miles of hiking and biking trails.
Just kidding, it’s not 3,000 but it is a lot and they are constantly adding trails all the time. Click this link here if you want to learn more about the hiking and biking trails.
Camping is also a thing at Nebo, that’s what us locals and just all around cool people call it..KNEEBOW.
Just wanted ya’ll to know before you go.
Back to the camping…
There is a sweet campground on the east rim just perfect for early riser sunrise watchers. As a matter of fact, we took our sunrise shots from the rock wall at the campground!
It was really cold and to be honest, I was thankful for our nice cozy cabin with the fireplace, coffee pot and Direct TV.
Speaking of cabin, just click on the link here and book you one while were on the subject and receive a 20% discount when you use the promo code “shotsbyjess.” Just kidding again, theres no discount. I made that part up. If were being honest here, I’ve always wanted to say that because I hear that stuff all the time on my podcasts.
Do you listen to podcasts?
I’ll save that for another post.
Back to Nebo Stuff
You know I’m a huge waterfall chaser right? I mean..I love them.
I wrote a post here talking all about waterfalls and how to shoot better photos of waterfalls if you want to check it!
And good news, Nebo has a waterfall. And you know we had to go check it out!
Just hit Gum Springs Trail for a short hike down to Mount Nebo Falls and you can walk right behind the waterfall like Kristal did in this shot.
I mean, how cool is this shot from behind the falls?
And last but not least, you have to go check out my favorite tree right by the trail head to the waterfall.
I mean…how sweet is that!
Also……I posted this shot on my Instagram Here of the same tree back in October of 2019.
I love this lonely tree, can you tell?
I figured you could.
Thanks for checking out my post about Mount Nebo State Park of Arkansas and don’t forget to add it to your Arkansas bucket list so you can check out views like this..
